Correctly preparing grains, legumes, nuts and seeds.

by Amber Fairweather |

Did you know that you should be soaking your nuts and seeds before eating them?

Traditionally, before consuming, humans have soaked grains, legumes, nuts and seeds for easier and improved digestion.

Although nuts and seeds can be great sources of nutrients, they do have substances that can interfere with out bodies ability to absorb nutrients.

So, by soaking our nuts, seeds and legumes we reduce the anti-nutrient contents and make them more beneficial to our bodies.

Raw nuts, seeds and legumes contain phytic acids and enzyme inhibitors. Although these are necessary for the plant for efficient growth, they can cause problems in our bodies by binding to nutrients in our bodies, contributing to nutritional deficiencies as well as irritating our digestive system.

So, although nuts, seeds and legumes are great sources of nutrients, they do need to be properly prepared before consuming and in order to do this, we need to soak them.

See our guidelines for soaking below:

It is best to soak overnight in water with a tablespoon of neutralizer like lemon, at room temperature.
