Bread Machine Sourdough Bread

by Amber Fairweather |

Have you ever tasted sourdough bread baked in a bread machine? It is absolutely delicious and you need to try it!

While many bread machines differ, some people have huge success with sourdough in a bread machine.

Here is a guideline for trying sourdough in your bread machine. Be mindful, you may need to tweak it according to your bread machine's suggested methods.

Using a bread machine to bake sourdough is a thrilling experience as you can make mouthwatering delicacies with minimal effort. The best part is that you will still enjoy every bit of genuine sourdough in the bread.

Here’s the recipe to get started:

Ingredients

  • 460g white bread flour

  • 80g bubbly sourdough starter

  • 15g unsalted butter

  • 0.5 teaspoon sugar

  • 1.75 teaspoon salt

  • 285ml water

Instructions

  • Dissolve sugar and salt in the water. Mix in melted butter.

  • Pour the sourdough starter and flour into the bread machine basket.

  • Pour the water along the edges of the baking basket
  • Knead the bread, with your kneading cycle lasting for about 30 minutes

  • Once you’re done kneading, allow the dough to rest and proof for two - four hours or until it rises to fifty percent of its original size.

  • Proofing time depends on how active your sourdough starter is, so you have to adjust accordingly until your bread rises to the right size.

  • Proofing time also depends on the temperature it proofs at. The warmer it is the faster it will proof.
  • After proofing, sprinkle some flour on top.

  • Pop any large bubbles you see on the surface.

  • Place your dough in the machine and set the timer to an hour and fifteen minutes.

  • Once that is done, remove the basket and put the bread on an airing rack. Allow it to cool down for an hour before cutting into it.
