Creatine has been living beside protein shakers, lifting belts and bicep photos. But creatine is not only a sports supplement. That is a pretty big reach – and I haven’t come across any professional scientist that would say that creatine makes people smarter! Intelligence is not one tiny switch in the brain. It is shaped by learning, life experience, self-reflection, sleep, stress, nutrition, movement, education, relationships, health conditions and more.
Creatine is a nutrient-related compound that supports energy availability. Research that is emerging is indicating that creatine can support particular cognitive tasks, like selected memory and reasoning. And that it may help some people more than others.
But sorry to say, creatine is not a fast track to genius, nor will not make you suddenly enjoy spreadsheets.
Who might consider creatine for better cognitive performance?
Creatine supplementation may be worth exploring for adults interested in both physical performance and brain function, particularly when lower creatine intake or higher energy demand might be relevant.
